Supporting Ancilliary Industries

Following the Government of Jharkhand’s ban on single-use plastic, the HRD Ministry of Jharkhand, in collaboration with Stark Ridge Paper, has setup training facilities to train rural women in making paper bags, envelopes, etc which are being used as substitute to plastic bags.

As the only paper mill in Jharkhand, Stark Ridge Paper proudly supports these Self-Help Groups by supplying kraft paper at subsidized rates. In 2020, we have already supplied 200 tons of paper, helping more than 500 women learn a trade & supplement their family incomes.

Subsidiary products that are generated during the paper making process are given to people in surrounding villages, who use it to make egg trays & other papier maché products. This has given rise to ancilliary cottage industries & boosted the local economy, while simultaneously minimizing the overall waste from the paper-making process.

We’ve also supplied the local community with machinery for manufacturing core pipes and edge-protectors (used for packaging our product) to promote their participation in our growth story.

Species Conservation

The deciduous, mixed deciduous & moist evergreen forests of Jharkhand are home to the vibrant and playful Malabar Giant Squirrel (ratufa indica malabarica).

Sadly, widespread deforestation has threatened their numbers in recent years, putting them on the threatened species list. Timber, wood pulp and virgin paper industries are among the leading causes of this deforestation.

The Pune Zoo has begun a captive breeding program to protect their population. Stark Ridge Paper is proud to support the program by donating a percentage of our profits to the zoo annually. Further, the Stark Ridge Paper factory green zone has been created to closely resemble their natural habitat, which will attract wild squirrels from surrounding areas and give them a safe place to live & raise their young.
